In contrast to the intensity and electric atmosphere of the first three days at the Copa, the quarterfinals on Day 4 are more relaxed in terms of scheduling. Only 16 matches are played in the entire day, 4 matches each in Boys and Girls Singles and Doubles. The Thursday weather was perfect, as it has been nearly all week.

The surprise of the day occurred in afternoon at Stadium Court as no. 10 seed Jeffrey WOLF of USA ranked no. 97 defeated no. 1 seed Alberto LIM of the Philippines ranked 12 by a comfortable 6-4, 6-2. LIM appeared nervous and ineffective and WOLF took full advantage to post an impressive victory. Third seed Zeke CLARK (USA) continued his winning ways and ended the dreams of the surprising Kyrylo TSYGURA who came into the Main Draw from the Qualy, by a score of 7-5, 6-3. TSYGURA´s ranking of 410 will surely improve next week as a result of his Copa performance, and CLARK will now meet WOLF in an all American semifinal.

In the bottom half of the Boys Singles Draw, the unseeded Juan Martin JALIF (ARG) took the semifinal berth from 11th seed Constantin BITTOUN KOUZMINE of France. Looking to follow in the footsteps of the other Juan Martin from Argentina, JALIF overpowered the smaller Frenchman and played an intelligent, versatile game, winning in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. No. 2 seed Ulises BLANCH (USA) dispatched the other Frenchman Jaimee ANGEL by 6-2, 7-6 to lock in the last semifinal berth. BLANCH plays for USA but is of Argentine heritage and will be a heavy favorite over the unseeded JALIF in the semifinals.

In the Girls Singles Draw top seed Amanda ANISIMOVA (USA) overcame the talented Malene HELGO of Norway after dropping the first set. The unseeded HELGO played well and had a strong tournament but in the end succumbed to the stronger no. 1 seed. The score was 6-7, 6-3, 6-4. ANISIMOVA, ranked 40, won in Mexico in November 2015 and is one of the youngest girls in the tournament, born in 2001. In the semifinals she will play no. 14 seed Ellie DOUGLAS of USA (ranked 201) who outplayed the Italian Tatiana PIERI by 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.

In the bottom half of the Girls Singles Draw 10th seed Hurricane BLACK (USA) defeated Nicole ANDERSON by a 6-2, 6-3 score to take the third semifinal berth where she will meet her doubles partner Dominique SCHAEFER (PER) in the bottom half Singles semifinal. SCHAEFER, who lives in Miami, dispatched another Italian Maria Vittoria VIVIANI in night play in straight sets 6-1, 7-6.

In Doubles quarterfinals only seeded teams won their matches to earn their semifinal berths. The winning duos were: AGUILAR (BOL) / BLANCH (USA), Brits CANTER / GRAY, Americans BRYDE / CLARK, and Frenchmen ADDED / MARTINEAU, seeded 1, 4, 3, and 7 respectively. It is notable that all of these teams are made up of players who know each other and have played doubles together in the past.

The winners of Girls Doubles quarterfinal matches were: Italians BILARDO / PIERI seeded 7, BLACK (USA) / SCHAEFER (PER) seeded 3, Norwegians BRUNE OLSEN / HELGO seeded 6, and the unseeded Americans BRIDGES / GOLDBERG. Again we see that several of these teams travel and play together, which is a great advantage in doubles play.
