Eight semifinal matches were played Friday, Day 5 of the Copa del Café 2015. Two singles matches (1 Boys and 1 Girls) were played during the day and the other 2 singles in night play. Three doubles matches were played during the afternoon with one Boys match in evening play.

In the first Boys singles, no. 5 seed Casper RUUD of Norway easily dispatched 16th seed Yshai OLIEL of Israel by 6-0, 6-1. The Israeli athlete played well last night in a three setter over GENENDER of USA but was flat today, pummeled by the aggressive RUUD, who now goes to the final on Saturday. In the bottom half of the draw the smooth no. 4 seed Ulises BLANCH of USA took on the strong no. 2 seed Miomir KECMANOVIC under the lights at stadium court. BLANCH put up a valiant fight but in the end the Serb was too strong and took the match 6-3, 6-4.

The first Girls singles match of the day featured two Americans, no. 1 seed Sofia KENIN and no. 4 seed Michaela GORDON. The players had similar styles of play, hitting hard and placing well. It was an intense match with GORDON prevailing in 3 sets 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. In the end the difference was perhaps GORDON´s calm, serene demeanor in contrast to KENIN´s emotional, sometimes petulant, state of mind. The other Girls singles featured another pair of Americans, no. 6 seed Olivia HAUGER and no. 2 seed Usue ARCONADA. A veteran of 4 Copas, ARCONADA is a tough competitor with an overall strong, competent game. Usue started off quickly with a first set 5-0 lead as HAUGER committed many unforced errors. Olivia settled down and made a match of it in the second set, but too little, too late. ARCONADA goes to the final 6-1, 6-4.

The Boys´ doubles pairings were: unseeded Americans Robert LOEB / Nathan PERRONE vs. no. 4 seeds Oscar JANGLIN (SWE) / Emil REINBERG (USA) in night play; and no. 3 seeds Tiago CACAO (POR) / Casper RUUD (NOR) vs. no. 2 seeds Marcelo BARRIOS (CHI) / Ulises BRANCH (USA) during the afternoon. In the daylight match BARRIOS / BLANCH bested the European duo by 7-5, 6-3 to punch their ticket into the final. In night play JANGLIN / REINBERG had a tougher time, going to the third set supertiebreaker and posting a win of 2-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Girls´ doubles were played in the outer courts during the afternoon. In the first match no. 1 seeds Usue ARCONADA (USA) / Evgeniya LEVASHOVA (RUS) were true to form, dominating the no. 3 seeds Sofia KENIN (USA) / Alexandra SANFORD (USA) in straight sets 7-6, 6-3. The no. 2 seeded Americans Michaela GORDON / Claire LIU had a more difficult time of it, going to a super tiebreak to down the no. 4 seeds Emily ARBUTHNOTT (GBR) / Vanessa WONG (USA) by a margin of 6-4, 4-6, 10-5. These match results mean we will see the number 1 and 2 seeded Girls´ doubles teams in the finals.
